Organizational mission in technology companies: a gender perspective

Abstract

This study examines the influence of gender on the perception of organizational mission, drawing on the mission dimension of the Denison Organizational Culture Survey (DOCS) and its subdimensions, vision, goals and objectives, and strategic direction, within a Spanish technology-sector company. A cross-sectional quantitative design was employed in a leading organization in the sector (n = 487), using the Spanish-validated DOCS instrument and comparing gender-based evaluations through statistical analyses. The findings suggest statistically significant gender differences in the vision and goals and objectives subdimensions, indicating that women tend to assign greater importance to components associated with a long-term, inclusive, and ethically oriented perspective. In contrast, no significant gender differences were observed in perceptions of strategic direction, suggesting that this subdimension may be more strongly shaped by organizational routines and standardized management frameworks characteristic of the technology sector. The results are consistent with social identity theory and role congruity theory, and they provide empirical evidence of gender-based differences in the interpretation of organizational culture and mission within technological contexts.
